Well, I have survived the first 3 days of hiking the Camino Frances
The first day was 10 kms UP to Orrisson. It was a really challenging ascent but I arrived before noon. I had a great lunch on the patio with incredible views. I have met so many people from all over the world.
I have been hiking with several Australians for the past couple of days. We have been roommates in the Albergue's.
The hike from Orrisson to Roncevalles was long and steep with 60 km winds. Both the ascent and the descent were difficult but gorgeous. Stayed in the monastery albuerge in Roncevalles last night. Almost 200 pepole and it was great . Well managed, clean and functional. The surprise came this morning when the hospitaleros flicked the lights on at 6am and came through the dorms with guitars and singing wake up.... It was insane but we were up and on our way by 6:30!! Breakfast 3kms down the road. Tonight, we are in a very modern albergue in Zurbiri
. Just did laundry and hanging out with the pilgrims waiting to go eat. So , that's about it for the moment. Off to Pamplona tomorrow. Oh. 16000 steps day 1 , 36000 day 2 42000 day 3. Each day has it 's own challenges and rewards
Sounds great.... except for the death march part, and the lights on - sing fest at 6 am... uhhh! Hope everyone there is much cheerier than I would be with that sort of wake up call... maybe if they had just brought the lights up slowly with a dimmer switch - that could have been ok.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are fabulous and poster worthy - some beautiful country you're walking. How is the temperature with that wind and summit? That's some pretty strong wind to be walking in, especially if you are on anything resembling a goat trail through the mountain. Can I assume the footing is a bit better than that?
Really looking forward to your next edition. Have fun, laugh lots, take your time and enjoy everything. Love and hugs.
sound amazing. Also amazing that there were so many people together. Nice to hear you made it over some of the hardest parts. Take care
ReplyDeleteThe temperature was cool but perfect for hiking. Today it is 30 and that is just too hot. it is going to be hot for the next few days so we will have to leave early in the morning.
